New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson Proclaims May 17 as Albuquerque Thunderbirds Day

The 2005-06 NBA Development League Champion Albuquerque Thunderbirds will receive a proclamation from New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson declaring May 17 as Albuquerque Thunderbirds Day.

“The Thunderbirds organization would like to thank Governor Richardson, for this honor”, said Team President Billy Widner. “We share this honor with the fans and community as we had a tremendous year and the D-League Championship is like icing on the cake for the fans who supported us all year.”

The Thunderbirds will also be holding a grand opening celebration at the new downtown site of the team’s administrative offices (111 Lomas Blvd. NW, Suite 240) on May 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to meet members of the front office staff and Coach Cooper, as well as purchase merchandise and playoff T-Shirts and hats while they last. The D-League Championship trophy will also be on display.

"Our first season was a huge success in many ways, and we want to give our fans one more chance to celebrate our NBA Development League Championship." said Widner.
