Dwight Howard Named the Ace Hardware "Helpful Player of the Month"
WHAT: Ace Hardware, in conjunction with the Orlando Magic, will honor one Magic player each month during the 2008-09 season as the Ace Hardware “Helpful Player of the Month.” Each selection will be based on their dedication to the Central Florida community and will exemplify Ace’s vision as “The Helpful Place.”
WHO: Dwight Howard has been named the Ace Hardware “Helpful Player of the Month” for his willingness to give back to the Central Florida community. As part of Howard’s on-going commitment to Central Florida and the Boys & Girls Clubs, on Thursday, April 2, Howard presented Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida with a $20,000 check and gave 50 members of the Walt Disney World Branch (ages 13-17) a $100 gift card to Finish Line. Howard took the teens on a shopping spree and assisted them with their shoe purchase following the check presentation.
Howard also teamed up with Kia Motors America to donate a new Kia Borrego SUV to Orlando Day Nursery, which has served the Parramore neighborhood since 1921 and is Central Florida’s oldest early childhood education center, as part of his award for winning the 2008-09 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award presented by Kia Motors.
